Ok, I guess this will get better over time. At least the extreme
slowlyness will be fixed once EXA becomes the default.

I am not sure GDM vs KDM has anything to do with it. Maybe the second
reboot cleaned up the card. It would be interesting to have the log from
the failure as well.

That log also says Using XAA acceleration architecture and not EXA.

Ok, now I am running with EXA. The effect on the rotation is funny. It
rotates the mouse movements, but not the screen. Newly opened windows
are also not rotated.
As a sidenote, EXA does also not seem to work well with compiz for me.
But that is not important, as I normally don't use it.

Can you please try with a newer -ati package from my PPA archive? See

Bugs,
Good job! With your packages (and EXA) the rotated graphics is still
slower than normal, but at least usable. Scrolling is almost normal,
only moving windows is a bit slow and sometimes has artifacts.

** Description changed:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
If I rotate the screen at a 1400x1050 resolution with gnome-display-
properties, the graphic becomes inbearable slow, but does not crash. My
- card is an ATI Radeon 7000, the driver used is ati.
+ card is an ATI Radeon
Thanks for your report. Can you please try EXA acceleration (see man
radeon for the syntax)? Please also attach Xorg.0.log.

I tried EXA acceleration, but it was a disaster. After
/etc/init.d/gdm stop and
/etc/initd./gdm start,
GDM would not work anymore, I had to switch off power. After booting
into recovery mode and removing the EXA option, GDM would still not
start. I had to reset again and switch to KDM.
