With Intrepid the internal microphone works out of the box, just need to be
activated from the sound mixer as digital mic.

Intrepid is now out, can you test the problem with the newer kernel?
My laptop has a mic on the front and a mic port... which of these are you
referring to?
Have you checked through alsa mixer to make sure that capture is set to the
microphone, and turned up?
