Hey Guys, If you want to remove both copies and reinstall firefox-2
clean you can do this:
1)export your bookmarks otherwise you will loose them
2) sudo apt-get purge firefo*
3) sudo apt-get install firefox-2
That way firefox 2 won't collide with anything remaining from firefox 3.

This just started for me. I have FF 2.0.0.14 installed and working fine
in Gutsy. Last night I upgraded to Hardy, and it installed 3.0 Beta 5.
This was not compatible with many of my extensions. I reinstalled 2 and
got the exact same error listed above. I removed 3 and now I get
"oldinstallLoc
The same thing happened to me, but with Firebug when I attempted to
install it in Firefox2. I'm on Hardy Heron and attempted this with the
latest version of Firefox2

Is this the only addon you have trouble with? Can you please list all of
your addons here. Can you also please give exact version of firefox you
are seeing this issue on and can you please make sure the addon is for
firefox-3 please provide link to broken addons
