I have exactly the same problem on Ubuntu 11.04. Nothing happens when I
insert an SD card (and I tried several cards). The syslog is not
responding. I am sure the card reader is not broken, because it still
worked last week in windows before I installed Ubuntu.

Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this
issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release -

I have the same problems with my 4-in-1 CardReader O2 Micro, Inc.
OZ711M1/MC1.
Using Ubuntu 8.10.
It shows up on when using lspci but nothing happens when I insert an
SD-card.

I have not enabled some tool for working with media.
In czech it called Výměnné mechaniky a média
So SD cards are now working, but Memory stick pro duo and Smart Media cards did
not work.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed and I noticed that multicard reader with kernel
2.6.24-19-generic do NOT recognize and mount my SD and Compact Flash cards.
I rebooted the machine with the previous kernel 2.6.24-16-generic and multicard
