Private bug reported: ipmitool has has the exchange-bmc-os-info service for years now and is shipping on major distros. It is missing in Ubuntu.
exchange-bmc-os-info helps set the OS name and version information in Baseboard management controllers (like Dell iDRAC). This request is to include exchange-bmc-os-info service as part of ipmitool package (like SLES) or as a separate package (like RHEL). https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/blob/master/contrib/exchange-bmc-os-info.init.redhat https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/blob/master/contrib/exchange-bmc-os-info.service.redhat https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/blob/master/contrib/exchange-bmc-os-info.sysconf Usage: $ sudo systemctl enable exchange-bmc-os-info Sample output on Dell iDRAC on Ubuntu 24.04/2 LTS is attached.
