The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

I had managed to get the stick to work for one session - i booted as usual
without the usb stick plugged & after gnome was up I plugged it and it somehow
worked for 1 session.
So I did an upgrade to 2.6.24-19 and rebooted, but it didnt solve the problem -
i still get soft lockups when the device
after another update I cant login into gnome anymore - it locks if the dongle
is connected during boot (responds only to alt+ctrl+del or commands like :
ls,more, etc... after i disconnect the dongle) and shows an error : "could not
start gnome-setting-daemon...did not receive a response...etc...
after not having this problem for quite a while latest update caused lockups
again :
ubuntu locks after logging in to gnome with the error about "gnome settings
daemon not responding".
system will respond to alt+ctrl+del only after removing the usb dongle.

I found out that when there is a device descriptor error like the above my usb
mouse doesnt work till I unplug the wireless dongle : it seems it is not
getting power (no light).
the dongle does light on despite the error.

more info :
discovered that sometimes i get device descriptor error when this halt occurs :
device descriptor read/64, error -110.
then kernel will try to give it another address, will fail again, etc...
dmesg log is attached - problem can be seen in messages regarding usb
2-2 (lines 25,26,41,56
additional info :
system works well when usb is plugged before loading ubuntu.
if i plug the usb after ubuntu/kernel loads system hangs.
