I did a new install of 8.04 LTS a few month ago. After that the bug was
gone. No trouble with compiz any more. Visual effects are set to normal.

(alternatively just start it from a terminal and paste the output
printed there into this report please).

Yes, I think so. (7.10 to 8.04) Desktop effects where either set to
minimal or off. When I looked into Systemueberwachung I found that a
lot of processes with compiz in their names was active.

Thanks for your report, did you upgrade from gutsy to hardy?, i don't remember
having experience this myself but then again, i've made the upgrade about a
