Hi JonOomph , you've hit the nail in the head, I have an AMD Athlon and
the NVidia driver is 169.12. Then the problem is the CPU? Can't it be
fixed?

Is you CPU an AMD Athlon? This seems to be the problem with my system.
Nvidia removed all the code to handle older processors from their newest
line of drivers. I found this info on the Nvidia forumns. Apparently
the only way to fix this is to upgrade my system to a newer CPU /
Motherboard.

Hi, I'm having problems with compiz too. It crashes always I ran it.
I've removed the value "[]" value at path
/apps/compiz/plugins/scale/allscreens/options/initiate_edge but now the
error message is:
$ compiz
Checking for Xgl: not present.

I was able to attach the gdb to the "compiz" process. Here is the
output / backtrace from that experiment:

Here is my backtrace. Since I couldn't figure out how to backtrace
compiz, I did a backtrace on glxgears (since any opengl program
crashes). If you need a backtrace on compiz, please let me know the
command to run to launch it in debug mode.
