testing on Ubuntu 12.04 - 64bit / AMD Phenom II 965 quadcore / 8GB
It is indeed a lot better, even the sound latency has gone down.
most of the time it is working.
there is one persistant bug:
Cannot load music: music/intro.xm
somtimes still a crash followed by:
Traceback
oh, by the way, the file intro.xm exists, is in the same directory as
background.xm (which does play ingame) and both files do play OK when
loaded into a mediaplayer... hope this helps.

Switched over to Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid), pathological crashes now in a totally
different way:

The version of pathological is the same however. What changed is the version of
pulseaudio.
This could be a pulseaudio bug.
