Well this seems to point to a problem with xdg-user-dirs since this
handles all the 'default' folders.
But anyway, you've really got me stumped. I re-executed xdg-user-dirs-
update on my system and nothing happened.

I have attached the term.log file.
My home partition was still intact on logging in but the Documents, Public,
Music, and Pictures folders were all empty. I only noticed that files were
missing when I wen
Please let me know if I'm incorrect in assuming /home still existed when
you rebooted. If it did not, how did you first realize /home was
missing ? Was there a message saying that a filesystem check failed or
anything?
Additionally, do you have any files in /lost+found? Type "sudo ls
/lost+foun

I have /home on a separate partition (sda3) and it is ext3. not sure
what you mean by mount options since it is mounted at boot.
