Public bug reported: Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk
I just installed Ubuntu 7.10 64-bit. I have all the latest updates and I'm using the proprietary NVidia driver (installed using the Restricted Drivers tool). My hardware is as follows: Intel Core Duo Extreme Quad-core 3 GHz 4 GB RAM 2 x 500 MB SATA harddisk 2 x NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX 2 x LG Flatron 19" TFT monitor, 1280 x 1024 pixels "Screens and Graphics" shows the first graphics card to be using the nvidia driver and the second card to be using the nv driver (which I cannot change, i filed a separate bug report for that). Note that the two monitors are attached to the first graphics card; the second card currently has no monitors attached to it. Ubuntu will only use one monitor and I cannot get it to activate the second one. The "Screens and Graphics" tool does show two screens. Oddly enough they are both named "Screen 1". The first one is set to "Default screen". The second one is set to "Disabled" and the "Secondary screen" choice is disabled. I attached a screenshot showing what I mean. If I try setting the second screen to "Default screen", the tool sets the first one to "Disabled"! And it does not seem to make any practical difference, Ubuntu continues to use only my first monitor. In another bug report I saw a hint that Ubuntu does not support setting up multiple displays if you use the proprietary NVidia driver. If that is the case there is still a bug in displayconfig, namely the fact that it shows two "Screen 1" entries! Also if this is the case I think it should be documented better. For example, either the Restricted Drivers Manager or the Screens and Graphics tool (or preferably both) should display a warning that it will not be possible to use multiple monitors if you use the nvidia driver. ** Affects: displayconfig-gtk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cannot activate second monitor with two geforce 8800 GTXs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215153 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
