"rtc" isnt in my /etc/modules so i had to add it in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist. but problem still exists. i'm updating the
system at the moment. i'll give further informations when that has
completed.

I had exactly the same problem as radi2k and gebi on a "Samsung R70" laptop.
System is Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid and up-to-date for 2008-10-14, running kernel
2.6.27-7-generic.
I solved the problem by disabling the "rtc" module in /etc/modules and
rebooting.

i installed intrepid ibex 8.10 beta5 on my samsung q210 aura p8400
torono, same problem here since 2.6.27-5-generic. I can't boot anymore,
only older kernel works flawless. booting in recovery and then resuming
the normal boot works perfectly. sometimes my speakers just do an

Cleared down Cookies in Windows XP and successfully re-set cookies and so
successfully logged in to Launchpad, which after the usual email turn-around
delay, seems to have fixed the Outlook Express Launchpad emails problem. -

Sorry Folks - Hadn't realized where my last post would end up !
In case it's relevant, during the continuing development of Ubuntu 8.04,
kernel 2.6.24-16 didn't work very well on any of my rigs, but a fresh install
from the 8.04.1 LiveDVD rather than the 8.04.1 LiveCD, with its solitary
2.6.
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable

problem doesn't lie in packages upgrading.

All persons who reported this problem on the Dutch Ubuntu forum, prior
to the final release, now report that all is well. The kernel update and
the HAL update of april 22 seem to have repaired this fault.

I recommend strongly a clean installation of the final version of Hardy
Heron. Clean and fresh, so with previous formatting of the partition.
In a couple of hours the final version of Hardy will be available for
download..
I expect that you won't see these problems anymore then.

I had the same problem on upgrading from linux-image-generic 2.6.24-15 to
2.6.24-16 before.
The problem is SOLVED for me since upgrading the brand-new package
linux-ubuntu-modules 2.6.24-16.23.

Problem is solved by the newest updates.
This is the remedy:
- boot with older kernel
- retrieve the latest updates manually (System - Administration - Update
Manager)
- reboot normally (with the latest kernel): no more problems. :-)

Confirmed, in a different way (i386):
When it hangs at boot, I was able to get to the text display. The last
few lines were

End of story. The [code] was NOT the uuid of any device on my system.

Hm, my setup is also hanging on loading hardware drivers. If I hit
ctrl+alt+del at that point, some processes die and the initialization
proceeds slightly further, but hangs when loading CUPS. Hitting
ctrl+alt+del again would drop me at the login console, but the reboot
message seems to get through
after the latest update, i'm able to boot with kernel 2.6.14-16 generic.
But, the display driver is not detected.

I can confirm this. I just updated Hardy to kernel 2.6.24-16 and the
boot process hangs at "Loading hardware drivers". Every previous version
of the kernel boots fine.
