Hi! I had the same problem after an update in 8.04 LTS too. I found
that there is some problems when I ran Rhythmbox with the gstreamer-
pulseaudio related packages. I had to remove these packages

I am having a similar problem as well. Totem and Rhythmbox does not work
in 8.04. I get Playback Error Failure to create stream: (null) I did
a clean install of 8.04 rather then upgrade.

I am having the same problem. Totem and Rhythmbox stopped working after
upgrading to 8.04. I get Playback Error Failure to create stream:
(null). Tests under gstreamer-properties work fine.

Try this: launch gconf-editor
browse to system - gstreamer - 0.10 - default
for every key here right click and choose Unset key
This should reset the GStreamer default element keys to the correct
values for Hardy.
