Turning off the option for Ctrl to show mouse cursor fixed the problem

I had this problem in Hardy and still have it in Intrepid, on a Dell

I have this bug too. I can confirm that unselecting "Show position of
pointer when the Control key is pressed" fixes the bug. Note that Ctrl-
Alt-L (Lock screen), Ctrl-Alt-S (Suspend), and Ctrl-Alt-H (Home folder)
break, but Ctrl-Alt-D (Show desktop) and Ctrl-Alt-T (Open terminal) work

I followed the hint from Andy and was able to reproduce the behaviour.
With activated "Show position of pointer when the Control key is
pressed" most of my shortcuts are ignored. Strangely, the custom-defined
STRG+ALT+T for the terminal works even then. If I de-select the cursor-
