I have something similar on an ACER Aspire 3618, 1.8GHz Pentium M 735A,
2 GB RAM Laptop. I've recently installed Intrepid Ibex (8.10) Alpha 6
on this machine and when going to Notifications and setting them for KDE
Windows Manager on Maximize, Minimize, the normal "windows sounds",

Could you upload the working phonondevicesrc so we could compare the two?
Thanks.
If anybody else had this problem, it would be helpful if you could
attach the working and non-working rc files too.

I managed to fix this again by restoring the original phonondevicesrc
and restarting the computer. Then I could delete the file and log out
and back in and the fix works again. However, I just put my computer on
suspend and sound stopped working again. I there any way to get around
this issue?

I feel like an ass. The fix worked for me but then I fiddled with some
settings and now it has stopped working again and so has the fix.

I had the same problem here when upgrading from 4.03 to 4.04. Lydia's
fixed worked fine. I'm guessing that they changed the format of the
config file and the old one messed things up.

Ok then it is the same problem I had.
I solved it by deleting .kde4/share/config/phonondevicesrc and logging out and
in again.
Can you move that file away and test it?
If that solves your problem please upload that file here for further
examination :)
