Dik, many thanks for your reply! I've bootet Kernel 2.6.24-12 and was
able to upgrade to the 'released' version of Ubuntu 8.04 from the
console via apt-get dist-upgrade etc. After installing the latest Nvidia
driver Hardy is up and running again with kernel 2.6.24.16

I have the same error, but I think it may be hardware related.
I installed Hardy Alpha. Everything was fine. Then, one day, the
computer had a great fall. After that, it would give the "Internal
Error, failed to initialize HAL!" error. But it happens only with the
newer kernels. 2.6.24-12 works pe
