Spent ages trying to find out what was blocking this hotkey. In an ideal
world there should be central hotkey configuration.

Man, this is hard to find. I just reformatted my computer, and had to do
yet another google search to make Amarok pausing work properly. Luckily,
I found this thread.

Hey.
You need to install a package called compizconfig-settings-manager. Enter the
program from System-Preferences.
After that, go into "enhanced zoom desktop" and select "mouse behaviour"
Disable "Center the mouse"

Hi all.
As you mentioned, Compiz allows you to change the shortcuts and changing
the defaults one because one applications have conflicts with one of
them it's not a good idea, however if you want to discuss this further
please fil a bug on the upstream bug tracker at bugs.opencompositing.org
