I haven't hit this since way back. If it was still a problem other
people would be making noise. Please assume the bug is gone. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Can confirm this is still a problem on 8.04 Hardy Heron. I guess bugs
don't get fixed on Hardy unless they are confirmed on later builds :-(

In Ibex 8.10 detect lan printer and share printers options are still
greyed out.
However remote printers are shown. My 8.10 I'm testing on was upgraded
through several generations of Ubuntu. Is there perhaps a magic cups
configuration
file and config line?

my print server is running gutsy
my client is running hardy
not sure which cups upgrade broke (gutsy or hardy)
but the old permissions problem crept back in w/ a cups update to one or the
other
I fixed by (on both client and server ubuntu systems)
chown -R lp:lp cups*
from /var/cache
