I've tested the Intrepid AMD64 liveCD on the same hardware, and the new drivers are a considerable improvement over the drivers in Hardy. I haven't noted any framedrops yet (though I haven't played around with custom compiz settings). -- [Hardy RC] Gnome behaves sluggish with compiz fusion activa

I don't know if this is related, but now I'm running Hardy with compiz and emerald turned off, and the desktop is still behaving sluggishly. Before, I was running the Hardy RC (updated with every update available), and yesterday I did a clean install of Hardy 8.04 final. Oh, and reloading Metacit

Something I noticed: It happens most noticeably when compiz has activated on for a while, and then switching tabs in eclipse or FF3b5, or making another program active. I just switched to metacity via the Compiz Fusion icon, and then back to compiz. For a couple of minutes, animation was perfect
