The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

Thanks for looking into this, Jarlath.
I couldn't figure out how to attach all three log files in one go,
so the other two come with separate messages.
Someone in the Ubuntu forums recommended to boot with
clocksource=hpet. Apparently this fixed the problem for
a number of people with similar
uname-a.log

As a follow-up to my previous message here'e the dmesg output
of of Hardy RC after the 6 minute boot procedure. Maybe it
contains some useful clues ?!
