Title:
Cannot change screen brigh
Is anyone looking at this? I've tried the two hacks posted and neither
of them work for me on the HP Pavilion.
It's troubling if this hasn't been addressed after a year. Screen
brightness is a health and safety concern. It may seem like a small
issue, but being able to see the screen comfortably i

Just wanted to add that the same brightness issues can be found on a
Acer 5315 laptop running Jaunty beta.
Adjusting volume work fine using the fn keys, but brightness does not.
The brightness OSD appears but I cannot change the brightness.

I'm sorry I forgot to add that I'm trying it on the latest Jaunty alpha

This appears to still be the case on portables, specifically for me, on
a Lenovo SL500. Using the Function key to increase brightness by
pressing the "brightness UP" key combo, will raise the display
brightness by one notch; subsequent key presses will then decrease the
brughtness a single notch, a

Ok, the fix probably doesn't apply to me. In terms of behaviour, it does
appear to be exactly the same bug, though - I press the buttons and the
little brightness symbol appears, and looks like it is being increased
or decreased, but the screen brightness stays exactly the same. I unplug

Sorry, the fix doesn't apply to you. The Fujitsu T2010 has an on-board
intel graphics card. If yours has an NVIDIA card, that's a different
bug.

Hi Duyn,
Thanks for the info you've posted. I just tried upgrading the kernel as
suggested but it didn't like the NVidia drivers (and in basic graphics
mode it wouldn't let me change the brightness, which doesn't auger
well).
I've tried using the xrandr command but this is what happens:

I also have a Fujitsu T2010 and have experienced problems changing LCD

remember exactly when it stopped working).

Changing screen brightness does not work on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo SI3655.
In Intrepid gnome-brightness-applet worked, it doesn't work with jaunty alpha 3

As of 2.6.28-4-generic on Jan 7, 2008 on daily-live USB via unetbootin

Caveats:
It's touchy. It can be slowing. Sometimes a little touch on the key can feel
like 3 or 4 presses.
Other times the brightness indicator in GNOME doesn't come up.

I'll try to help however I can. This is my first time doing a HAL debug!

Test info:
- I restarted the t2010.
- Gnome opened, logged in
- I did the HAL recording.
- I did do some copy misc copy commands, a few lines did scroll while I did it.
- I proceeded to fn+F6 (dim) twice and fn+f7 (brigh

I own a Fujitsu Lifebook S7210.
Basically, the situation is the same as described by Bruce Wolfe. The

screen brightness in any way. xbacklight could dim the screen, but I
think it wasn't using ACPI and I didn't have the feelin
I also own a T2010 - I am using Intrepid Beta. Observations...
* Fn (F6&F7) keys bring up onscreen applet and change the values but the
brightness doesn't change.
* related - the values change two steps at a time - both up and down.
* xbacklight can be called directly using get & set, but again n
