Public bug reported:

The function keys that are supposed to control the HP G7000 series
laptop's screen brightness do not work. The screen brightness is set
automatically to its maximum. All the other function keys work. The
problem started after the upgrade to 8.04 from 7.10. I need to mention
here that in Ubuntu Gutsy, the keys seemed to work fine.

Perhaps its an acpi problem? Is there any patch or module(?) available?
Also, something to mention, the Monitor settings app shows this message: No
monitor supporting DDC/IC available. If your graphics card need it, please
check all the required kernel modules are loaded (i2c-dev, and your framebuffer
driver. I don't know though if this has anything to do with this problem.
