On hp 6730b with 9.04 brightness control keys are working great,
but after upgrade to 9.04 I noticed that when notebook is suspended or
hibernated through power-management it cant be resumed, it restarts instead
resume, but that is for another bug report.

Icon thank you, I checked that page again and added video to blacklist
and now I can set brightness through gnome Power Manager 2.24.0, buttons
still doesnt work but that doesnt matter much.
But it is not clear on that page that video module should be blacklisted
if panel is detected by HAL.

Vlado, do you mind following the guide at
http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/quirk/ ? If it does work after that,
it seems that the functions keys are still not working out of the box for some
laptop series.
Still, after a fresh install of Interpid 8.10 on HP G7000 they work fine.

The brightness control function keys don't work out of the box for a HP
6730s either. The problem can be fixed by adding a hal-info entry for
your laptop using the method described at
http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/quirk/
