This seems to be a long-running unresolved issue. I have an Intel HD
with Conexant CX20549 (Venice) codec. Mic boost switch is not present
either. Running Ubuntu Meerkat. I have to be 2mm close to the microphone
to be audible.

After upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 beta, laptop internal mic now picks up
sounds at an appropriate volume. Still no "mic boost" option on
alsamixer or gnome volume control but as long as the mic works, this
isn't a problem.

With latest version of Ubuntu still no improvement. Alsamixer doesn't
show a mic boost switch and sound recording from the internal mic still
doesn't work.

Hi Peter
I also don't have a mic boost in Karmic, but it seems like the mic is
much louder once I tune it up in alsa-mixer from the command prompt. Do
you have any comments on improvement?

Hi guys
An update on my Toshiba U400, microphone was very soft on Jaunti and
Ibex. No boost button. After upgrading my ALSA version to 1.0.19, my
microphone is MUCH louder.
I still don't have a boost button. And with skype it sounds like I'm in
a thunderstorm with all the noise.
Klaus, where can
Thanks @ceauke for the hint! For me two things solved the problem:
- compiling the latest ALSA-package
- setting the model to "mbp3" in the alsa-base config. The model "imac24" I
used previously sounded so much more obvious as I have a 24" iMac but, alas, I
was wrong.

Hi guys
Latest stats for me: I got it working thanks to upgrading to the 1.0.19 version
of ALSA.
Got the information from this link:

This problem seems to affect the Intel ICHx-sound controllers, I've got the
very same issue on my iMac 24" (8,1)
The microphone (and mic boost-checkbox) did work with the Intrepid RC but at
some time in the last few months I believe an ALSA-update broke it.
I've put many hours into solving this
Sorry, this is on jaunty. Ibex was even tougher to get working to I'm happy
about less complex interface. But I never got the mic boost tick box.
