Same here. With openchrome and via driver, vesa doesn't work. As a
workaround, add following to your to your xorg.conf:
Section Monitor
...
HorizSync 0 - 200
VertSync 0 - 200
...
EndSection
and optionaly also this:
Section Screen
...
SubSection Display
Depth 24
Modes
VertRefresh, I meant
