This bug affects the PS3 which is powerpc based so it uses the ubuntu- intrepid-ports kernel. It looks like the ports kernel will remain on 2.6.25 for intrepid. The real fix for this bug will come from LP #220524 where we hope to get Ben H's patch into the ports source.

Yes, I wrote that patch after I filed this bug report :-) I decided to dig a bit more into the problem and found that we needed a proper long term solution, not only on PS3 but on anything with a small memory footprint in fact (in theory, the same problem would happen with POWER5 or 6 partitions
