What hardware are you using? I'm using an nVidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with
the latest drivers.
Regarding Firefox disappearing:

response time from KDE4 when I activate the desktop effects, it is
slower, and I suppose there is another bug to add: Firefox doesn't even

Yeah, I meant the desktop effects. Dashboard performance seems to be a
bit better when they effects are on, in my experience. But even when
they are off it never takes more than a second or so to show up.

How do I find that out? Or do you mean the KDE4 visual effects? These
are not activated, just default KDE4 installation.
Oh and I have a nVidia Corporation Quadro FX 570M (from lspci)
