Great news. The Intrepid Alpha 5 boots correctly with the
"all_generic_ide" boot option added. :-)

Installing using the Alternate CD (Intrepid Alpha 5) is working
correctly here. However, I cannot boot into the freshly installed system
after that. It ends up in Busybox again.
I tried to boot into Intrepid using the 'recovery' mode. This has pretty
much the same result, but gives a lot more info
The same thing happens with my Acer 5050.
I just tried the Alpha 5 live-cd and get the exact same problem.

This happens to me too!!! It makes no difference whether you choose to
install or to just boot. I can't run linux on my laptop at all
