It was NetworkManager!! I spent a week pulling out my hair trying
everything to get my BCM4312 to work on WPA2. The problem was the #$%^
Gnome NetworkManager. I installed wicd (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/ and
the wireless worked the first time I rebooted. Amazing.
