Hi andrei_m, I've a symlink to ../conf.avail/10-hinting-medium.conf.
However, since writing the above and providing the image, I found bug
#190848. Since my issue was only with gnome-terminal, I think that

Dear Ralph, looking at your screenshot, is it possible that your terminal is
using medium-hinting
instead of full-hinting? If you go to /etc/fonts/conf.d, to you have a symlink
to 10-hinting-full or to
Setting to Confirmed because something is going on here.

I know this has been marked for fontconfig, but I think it may also have
to do with libfreetype.
