I think the request is relevant. It ought to be possible to provide a
-nox package in line with that provided for emacs, for example.

We build r-base with the X-11 interface enabled, as this is the choice of most
users. In your particular case, you may want to compile from source without it.
An alternative would be to introduce a new binary package (lets call it -light
or -server) where this is done upfront; this would require
