I can't fix this actually because I am not a developer (sorry). At
What happens after you press e? What is displayed on the line?
If splash is already there, can you remove it? You won't be able to
have a graphical boot, but that way your screen will not be blank.

I did two additional tests:
1) I erased quiet
result: No change. A Blank, Black screen for approx 180 seconds.
Then,
2) I added to the end: quiet splash
result:

1.Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2.Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it.
3.Select the kernel line
