Thanks for the testing everyone.
Kozimodo, 2.6.27 sounds promising for you.
fgosse, I've seen previous reports of LiveCD's emitting squashfs errors
when it was actually a result of bad media (ie you burned a bad LiveCD).
Care to maybe try burning a new LiveCD to test this theory.
dav2dev, since
Gah, I should read better. dav2dev you already commented that this was
resolved for you back in Hardy! Sheesh. Since you are the original bug
reporter, I'm going to makr this bug Fix Released If anyone is still
having issues with the most recent 2.6.27 kernel (ie fgosse), please
open a new bug
Seems to work for me. I have a Fujutsu S6240 with single core 1.86Ghz

I've tried the live cd.
But during the boot there is a stop (after squashs : version 3.3.1
(2007/10/31) Philip Lougher )
So, I can't confirm you this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug
reported here.

boot delay of about 30s because of ata_piix(ICH6M)
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
I don't know if this is the same or a similar problem but there are two
threads relating to it on ubuntu forums and a workaround that is
successful for at least two laptops:

boot delay of about
It seems that the problem has gone with linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic. Here
are the same bits of dmesg output, with the new kernel:
[ 15.636172] SCSI subsystem initialized
[ 15.691103] libata version 3.00 loaded.
[ 16.660600] ata_piix :00:1f.2: version 2.12
[ 16.660616] ata_piix
Same problem with an Inspiron 9300 and kernel 2.6.24-18-generic..
There seems to be some small instability with the disk access, even once
the machine has boot up properly.
