Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
vlc:
  Installed: 0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3 0

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

In Gutsy with vlc 0.8.6c the following command provided access to the RC
interface:

cat | vlc -I rc --rc-fake-tty

entering the 'quit' command would terminate vlc.

In Hardy the same command starts vlc but no commands are read from the
pipe by vlc and the only way to exit is either a ctrl-c or killing vlc
from another terminal.

Please not that this a pointless trivial example to show the bug, the rc
interface is being used by freevo.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
