I'm here because I just upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04, and am
experiencing this in Kmail. I've used Kmail since 2002 and never seen
this before. This bug is extremely valid.
When I check my mail for the first time, the CPU usage goes to like 90%.
It subsides once the check is complete.

and logfiles when this happens. You can reopen this bug when your

Currently I'm using KMail 1.10.0 from kde4-PIM and there is no yet of any
symptoms described in my bugrepot.
But on my observations critical mail number is for about 1 and currently
I'm having only ~5000 after some cleaning.

I have the same problems under the same environment. But, i would not
say "random", i would say "always after a few seconds"
