It is still present in Hardy! (kernel 2.6.24-24)
Please consider, Hardy is LTS and with regard to maintainence will
survive even Jaunty.

I am still with Hardy and have no intention to use Intrepid. Hardy will
survive Intrepid by more than a year with regard to updates.
So, I am awaiting to get it fixed in Hardy's kernel 2.6.24-21 - keep in
mind, it is a LTS version!

Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test and verify if this is

An easy solution would be to enable the corresponding feature in the
kernel, so one can read the configuration of the running kernel from
/proc/config.gz.
This feature is disabled in the standard Ubuntu kernels, so we face a
hen/egg problem.

i can confirm this bug. I have compiled a new kernel with the actual
config-file 2.6.24-16 under /boot and after that the sound was not
working at all. After a new compilation the sound is working again.
