Same thing. Got this error with the today's Xubuntu alternate. Fails at
47% w/ random key. With a passphrase it works like butter. Killing and
restarting the installer using ash does nothing to fix it, either.

it has something to do with the random key.
i tried a few partitioning layouts and as soon as i choose a random key for one
partition the partitioner freezes at 47%.

I'm getting the same problem doing manual lvm+encryption.
doing the guided and taking the defaults seem to work.
I was trying to setup a single partition on the hard drive and a /boot
on a usb key when I did it.
