broadcom is a company completely neglecting linux. this is why we only
have binary drivers, which noone in the linux community can fix. Wep
might be one of the things you are out of luck. Most likely WPA works.
Remember when you next time buy a laptop or something to not buy
anything from broadcom

Having same issue -- Broadcom using b43 module can do open and WPA, but
not WEP:
