I did as Emilio Monfort suggested and opened a bug under hardy
backports.
Maybe that will get the package included, as they now have an intrepid
version.

Then I should not have responded as I'm just an end user with an
interest in trying out the app. I have been waiting to see if Roger
Ward would be able to modify his install script so that would properly
identify the dependency and automatically add a webserver as part of an
install attempt.
I would love to give you feedback, however I'll be the first to admit
that I'm a bit.. shall we say.. process challenged. :)
By that, I mean two things: First, I have little experience with
Nagios. I tried it a few years ago and was unimpressed. Reading the
changelog for version 3 convinced
Ignore my second issue. I clearly had a brain fart while reading your
instructions. I'll check it out as soon as I can.
However, if there's anything in particular that you'd like me to try
once I complete the install process, please don't hesitate to let me
know.

OK, I ran the install for nagios3 using adept_manager. It looks like it
installed everything installed correctly:

I copied the Debian source and Ubuntu nagios2 changes, and made a ppa
package that built correctly and functions on my system.
It can be downloaded from the following apt source:
