Is that even a legitimate solution to the problem though? 8.04 is
supposed to be the long-term support release. If the package is fixed in
8.10, why has the package not been backported to incorporate the fixes
for 8.04?

We can do no more; input-hotplug is an enormous change and requires a
new X server and lots of other bits and pieces.

I can confirm this issue myself, and am including an Xorg.0.log and my
xorg.conf. This doesn't seem to only be related to turning off the keys
-- I tend to leave my laptop on for 5-7 days before a reboot, and
typically after day 2-4 I will lose the scroll. I have figured out
purely by accident
Xorg.0.log.old which contained several of the events as described above
(including my above described workaround.)

Bare, no xorg.conf. Addendum to above: I know that the events happened
during the course of the above log, but I am unsure if they are
documented in the above log.
