As reported, the driver in the linux-restricted-modules-envy solves the
problem. The old linux-restricted-modules won't be updated, therefore
I'm closing the report.

I think it would be wise to start a new thread, because my problems
disappeared after installing envy with the new nvidia-glx-new[173.x]
version.

I am having the same kinds of problems with my nVidia Quadro FX1500
256MB PCIE 16x. I have a Compaq nw9440 EZ901AA#ABA. I am getting a
trashed and twisted display, if I move the mouse around it will snow.
Here's the interesting part; sometimes I can see well enough to (with
GREAT difficulty)
You can install EnvyNG and enable the hardy-proposed repositories so as
to get the latest release of the driver.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've avoided doing that kind of thing
because I don't know enough about how to choose specific packages for
update/upgrades. If Ubuntu was based on Gentoo, I'd know exactly what
to do. Debian, not so much. :)

I would like to request that the priority of this bug be raised as it
affects all Geforce 9xxx cards. The official nvidia driver supporting
these cards was released just last week.

I mis-spoke. The new driver, 173.14.05, supports the following cards:

* GeForce 9500M GS
* GeForce 8400
* GeForce 8400 GS

Since the 9600GT video card isn't supported yet I am marking this issue
as confirmed. I believe we have enough information about your hardware
and your X setup. Please stay subscribed to the bug as developers might
