I can confirm this on a Dell XPS M1330. Fiddling with the battery brightness levels to make them match available levels as shown in /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD/brightness causes the brightness to get very close to being restored to 100%, but still not all the way. -- brightness is not saved and

found another similar bug, altough it may be an mplayer bug. steps to reproduce: 1. turn down the brightness. 2. open any video in mplayer. brightness goes to the max (this may be the way it's supposed to work). 3. close mplayer. brightness is still max, while it should go back (or not change at

i've found out the same thing happens when you simply close the lid (when it's set to just turn off the screen in such case) or switch to tty by ctrl-alt-f1 and back by ctrl-alt-f7 - the brightness is reset. a funny thing happens when you do it quickly - you can see the brightness applet

I'm having the same problem, I like the laptop to be at full brightness when on AC power I'm running a ThinkPad T60 w/ an ATI Radeon x1400 when I plug the power back in, i need to manually readjust the brightness settings, i played around with gconf-editor, but even with the AC brightness turned
