Installing php5-recode did not immediately work for me. However, I
noticed that when I fired up the php cli, it showed a warning message
about another module not loading correctly. When I fixed this, then the
rkhunter problem went away. I then tested by removing php5-recode and
the problem came bac
I am on hardy and installed php5-recode to solve the problem.

I don't have php4-cli installed, but running php gave these warnings:

After removing the extra extension=ldap.so and gd.so lines from
/etc/php5/cli/php.conf the errors went
I've been having the same problem. Just tonight I found what it is. I
have php4-cli installed, and executing "/usr/bin/php" caused some
warnings:

invalid in Unknown on line 0

I can confirm this here:
