aha. so xulrunner-1.9b5 also ships a libxul.so inside /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9b5/libxul.so. During package build, *this* gets used as a dependency of xulrunner-1.9-dev. Too sad, but that's not what is getting used for the result on my system: ldd $(which chmsee) libxul.so =

As long as you try to use -rpath in your LDFLAGS, you are doing something wrong. You have to use the standalone glue, which wouldn't attempt to link against libxul.so at all. Look https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XulrunnerGecko to get some basic infos. -- chmsee FTBFS in Hardy
