Stefan, are you still having this problem? Note that in Intrepid, the
cupsys package has been renamed to cups, and the current version is
1.3.9-1. Are you still seeing messages in dmesg? Those are apparmor
rejections; to verify one way or the other whether apparmor is
interfering, you can convert

as in my last comment: no apparmor doesn't intefere any longer.
Once I'm home I'll try another printout, and see if still half of it is
missing.
