A (probable) fix in this for GtkTextView has been committed to trunk in the
Gtk+ source. Any chance of it being backported?

Why the importance is low? I think it's a very dangerous bug! It has
corrupted my documents, and I didn't realize of this... or I realized

Compiz is the issue here when it is set to normal mode the copy paste
bug in gedit appears.
When we turn on advanced settings the copy and paste bug seems to
disappear in part see below.
We turn it off and it it seems to have gone completely.

I played around with this bug a litte further - it was not easy to find
a bullet-proof way of reproducing the behaviour. However, I hope I
finally suceeded: Please try the attached demo file (instructions are
included). The bug only shows up when the mouse's scroll wheel is used.

I did this before, but now I found out that it's not really necessary to
trigger the bug. The most important part seems to be scrolling down 20
times using the mouse wheel (and I mean scroll strokes). Just in case
you ask yourself if such a complicated bug could ever occur in real
