I've upgraded to 64bit 8.10 and OpenJDK with IcedTea plugin doesn't give
this issue. I couldn't test with Sun's JRE since there's no 64bit
support from their plugin

i was using sun-java6-jre & sun-java6-plugin at the time, which i
installed from console with:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
been maintaining that for every Ubuntu version
