Sebastian, Did you have a chance to try using the NetworkManager from PPA, or from the latest release of Ubuntu (9.10)? As mentioned above, setting Authmode is probably not required. You should instead (on a recent NetworkManager, 0.7 or 0.8) try to set the password, group password, or both to
