Just to let you guys know that I'm having the exact same problem ever
since I upgraded to 8.10, its really annoying.
I've seen it on GTK applications mostly.
I'm running NVIDIA driver 180.06, but it happens me also on 177.82 and
173.xx.
By the way this was not happening on 8.04 with the same har

bug. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit with an Nvidia graphics card. I'll

The issue still happens on a near-daily basis.
I have yet to upgrade to 8.10 on this machine, so I don't know if the
issue is fixed there. Additionally, I am unwilling to run non-stable
versions of Ubuntu as the affected machine is my workstation and needs
to work at least somewhat reliably. :)

Running nvidia-settings and then checking and unchecking Flat Panel
Scaling under GPU 0 -> DFP-0 a few times stops the problem from
happening for a while.
Seeing as this happens to me every day and the issue normally causes me
to have to log in and out (to restart X), this is a handy workaround.
