After following some of the tips from
http://en.opensuse.org/Nvidia_Black_Window_Bug_Fix
and http://wiki.compiz.org/Troubleshooting , i don't seem to have the problem
anymore., running lucid with KDE 4.4.2 and
nvidia 195.36.15 binary driver. Here are the relevant /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Hi, I've been having this exact problem for quite some time. I was
running kubuntu 9.04 and it's as described: after a while, I start
getting black windows (menus, dialogs or full applications).
One way to have them back is to use the alt-shift-f12 shortcut to
disable compiz.
Today I upgraded to
